Golf is one of many activities beckoning visitors to the confluence of past and present tucked away in eastern Ohio’s Tuscarawas County. Sprinkled among the hills and valleys are nine golf courses where players will relish unspoiled natural settings with panoramic views gently reaching toward the horizon.
The county’s popularity as a tourist destination stems from its wealth of museums and historic sites. Dover is home to Warther Carvings which displays the history of steam engines created by Ernest ‘Mooney’ Warther as well as the JE Reeves Victorian Home and Museum, a no-ropes museum full of the original Reeves family furnishings. Go back in time at Zoar Village, a lasting monument to the community formed by German Separatists in the early 19th century, or at Schoenbrunn Village, a replica of a Moravian mission founded in 1772. There’s also Fort Laurens, site of Ohio’s only Revolutionary War fort. Want to visit a true railroad town? The small village of Dennison became a major stop at the turn of the 20th century because of its location ½ way between Columbus and Pittsburgh. It’s also located along a direct route from New York City to St. Louis. Today the Dennison Depot houses a museum, restaurant and gift shop. Nostalgic attractions include a Funeral Memorabilia museum, Gas Pump museum and an Automobilia restaurant! Bikers can rent and ride at Adventure Harley Davidson in Dover, and families can cool off at Ohio’s newest outdoor water park at Uhrichsville. Conveniently situated just 90 miles from major metropolitan centers Columbus, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, Tuscarawas County relishes its role as an outdoor haven with recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages and interests.
