Tam O’Shanter ClubhouseUpon hearing the words “Canton, Ohio” most of our thoughts immediately turn to mustard colored blazers and bronze busts of guys named Lambert and Ditka. Surely, the National Football League’s Hall of Fame has become synonymous with Canton, but the selection of quality public golf facilities in the city cannot be overlooked.

Canton is located in Stark County, which is home to 21 award-winning and tournament tested golf courses. The courses vary to accommodate all levels of players, so whether you are a seasoned veteran or a beginner, you’ll be covered. In addition to providing affordable golf, Stark County can provide its visitors with a history lesson.

Clearview Golf Course, an 18-hole facility located in East Canton, is the only African American built, owned and operated golf course in the nation. It has already earned its place on the National Register of Historic Sites.

Opened in 2006, The Quarry Golf Club, which can be found just minutes from Downtown Canton, is a unique target-style golf course built on an old quarry dating back to the 1800’s. Golfweek named The Quarry one of the “Top 50 Best New Courses” in the country and one of the “Top 10 You Can Play” in Ohio.

For two consecutive years (2008, 2007), the Tam O’Shanter Golf Course, which is made up of two 18-hole courses (Dales and Hills), has been voted the “Best Public Golf Course in Stark County” The Dales Course, which was built in 1928, recently celebrated its 80th anniversary The Tam O’Shanter is Stark County’s lone 36-hole facility.

Many area hotels offer golf packages that will accommodate any size group and all of your needs, from tee-time to bedtime. Many of the courses include dining at their clubhouses, and if not, the county offers many restaurant choices to satisfy every palate.

With courses to suit a wide array of talents and tastes, the Canton area is the perfect place to hold your golf outing.   www.VisitCantonStark.com
